Here are the two sides of the 650. Very tight fit, no room for play. This bulkhead and the magnesium bulkhead have the same width and geometry.

i never met him, just talked a bunch on the phone with him. he had gotten cancer real bad and passed unfortunately. he was a speedway guy early on before switching over to rupp. chuck was good friends with bob niemchek back in the day. that is where the xenoah came from that was in this sled when i got it. i have made contact with the guy who raced this sled for chuck, lots of good racing stories from back in the day. he even told me about the time they went to mansfield to pick this sled up from rupp. chuck was heavily involved with the oval scene of racing in the 70's, i got well over 200 pictures also of sleds and racing.

I thought his relationship was a salesman selling Salsbury clutches to Rupp.

I thought his relationship was a salesman selling Salsbury clutches to Rupp. I got an N.O.S. motor about three years ago, and chased down it's history from the three previous owners. Essentially I found out it came from the "Chuck Brightly" estate. My investigation netted me the same answer, that Chuck was a salesman/representative for Salisbury clutches. Most people I spoke with did not recognize/remember his name at all. Bill, can you spread some more light on your conversations with him. I am only assuming (the motor is a 71), he must of had a relationship of some sort with Rupp, prior to his Speedway days.(72-74)

kevin, the motor is not a chap motor but its not a full fledged 76 nitro/magnum motor either. its a combo of both, kinda. i know the cylinders have boost ports, there almost like 76 cylinders but not quite. there oddballs for sure. maybe there something that chap tried in 74??, this motor was built in '75, i know some of the markings are not right either for 76 stuff.
ed, mcruppin, i called the guy who raced the sled to get some more info on chuck, he was not around today, i will try again. i did not try today but i can also call his sons, they may know some info. i am not aware of any in house rupp relations he had, maybe he sold some sleds new, not sure, i will find out.

Bill, did you figure out what Chuck Brightley's connection with Rupp was? I know someone that has the remains of his 800 magnum.

I talked with lee again, the guy who raced chucks rupp, wanted to verify some notes before i posted. i had written in my notes, chuck was an engineer for rupp and lee did verify that. that's how he got the sled i got, bought it right from rupp. chuck sold the 800 magnum named bad bozo to some guys in michigan, sold them a 650 tohatsu also, bunch of parts and the 3 cylinder aluminum pipes, they where wrapped. all went to mich. lee said.

It's odd if he was an engineer for Rupp why wouldn't Gene Bloom, Tedd Pierce Jim and John Binkley know him.
