Which way is the track supposed to be put on? The ribs are slanted one side, straight the other side.I was looking at my parts sleds that had tracks on them and some are put on with slant toward the front, others slanted toward the back.Which is correct? Thanks.

slanted toward the back is the way you want it.

So what happens if the track is on wrong? Will it still be ok? Thanks.

The tracks are reversible, they can go on either way. This was one of the tricks everyone pulled was to turn their track around and get out of the hole better. The tracks were originally put on to enhance braking, but it didn't take long before many people figured out that they worked best the other way around getting much better traction. Wig

There really isnt a right or wrong way. Like Rick said, MOST guys run the ribs to the back for the most traction. With the ribs foreward, the braking is improved. Its personal preference.

If your going to trail ride it put it on the way I said. The factory's put them on this way for a reason. If you want to get out of the hole better use cat claws. If you run the track backwards you will tear the lugs off alot faster.

The tracks on the parts sleds are slide suspension, dual drive sprockets frt. & back. When you say lugs, what are you referring to? I guess I'm not up on the tracks.I'll try and take a picture of a section of the track.

The rear of sled is to your right. The bottom track rib/lug,shows the straight side to the rear, slanted side to the front.Seems like this would be the way for traction when racing.

The lugs are the ribs. Looks good the way it is. Thats the way I'd run it.

Let me know what happens when you grab a hand full of brake on hard pack. You will know why I say run it the way it is suppose to be.

You would think that it would grip better with the flat side being the lead edge...But the angled edge is meant to pack down the snow when it meets it for best traction. If you're grass racing, leave it the way it is. Snow...well, I'd listen to Snosnake, the track's backward. And that really hurts to say

(but just put it on the correct way) I tell you when you brake hard you will loose control.

I have a question. All of you guys that are telling him to run his track backwards have you ever tried this?

I ran them backwards but always had claws at the same time. Worked great for me. Wig

Wig me and a few of my buddies did this back in the 70s and we found out you could not cotroll the sled near as well with the track backwards. When you come in to a connet and hit the brakes the rear of the sled would slide out from under you and you would go sideways. This may have worked for you but it did not work for any of us farm boys in SE Minnesota. But then I never got a 80mph sled to go 100+ mph either.

Well, don't know what to tell you - Maybe you just don't know how to ride . . . . . or how set up a liquid to run right.

Wig all I am saying is. I do know from experiance that if you run your track backwards your braking control down right sucks. I rode sleds untill 2002 and quit because a lack of snow. When I was riding I was putting on 3,000 to 5,000 miles a year. I do think I know how to ride a snowmobile. As far as tuning a green dripper you must be the master because you are the only one that I have ever heard of to get a stock one to go 100+ mph. I am not saying you did or did not get one to run this fast just that you are the only one I have heard of to do this.
