If you want to race a rupp in superstock, ovals get a 75 f/a, the 76 liquids are handicapped in stock form. Like bill said, $10,000.00 per sled to make them compete in the mod classes. I have a absolutly beautiful 75 f/a 340 on ebay right now without reserve and starting out at 2800.00

The 72 nitro can be a very very very competitive drag sled, I set up the waconia cup champion sled last year, all I can say is this, you better have a trail twister really dialed in if you want to beat this thing

well i did some reading and research and i found out i have a 73 nitro 440 with the tohatsu motor. I was thinking about selling it because i could kinda use the money but i think i might keep it and restor it. Im savin all my pennys for a wile then i will probably call bill S to get some parts. I had wanted to have an oval sled but if it would make a good drag sled maybe i will do that instead. what kinda things did you do to your 72?

Klong, if you are serious about drag racing FORGET the '73 Nitro. The '72 Nitro is hands down faster. Its a totally different animal. You will never get a '73 to run competitively,...at least not in stock form.

hi dale, i am not disagreeing on what you said at all, but motor for motor the 73 motor is better than the 72 motor. we all know that the exhaust is what kills the 73 motor. i dont know what you can do in your rules, but a 73 motor with a 72 exhaust i believe is the way to go. dont know if that is legal for stock though. b.s.

I have raced both the 73 AND 72 NITROS the 72 Nitro is by far the better sled. Stock is stock and you can't go mixing parts with different year sleds. I guess if I want to make a 73 fast I would cut down some 73 SR cylinders and run the 72 exhaust, Cheat-en's cheat-en and the best cheater wins. or is it the are 2 kinds of racers cheater's and loser's. Dan I still think we need to run the 72's this year. I f dale can keep Jake from sleeping at the light it should be a very close race.

like i said i wasnt disagreeing at all, and i didnt know if you could put the 72 exhaust on a 73 and wasnt implying about cheating, but i think motor for motor the 73 motor is better. just my thoughts. thats all. b.s.

Bill I agree the 73 Cylinders look like they have better porting but Dale and Jake clocked both the 72 and 73 motor with the 72 exhaust and the 72 was quicker in 500 feet. I will have to say I did every up grade to the 72 that I could get away with to race a Waconia and this may have helped.

hmmm, ok thats cool. it just seems to me the 73 cylinders would make more power plus with the c.d.i.. how far apart were they?? b.s.

The '72 engine was at least .45 quicker then the '73 engine in 500ft. The '73 exhaust choked the engine.

The '72 engine was at least .45 quicker then the '73 engine in 500ft. The '73 exhaust choked the engine. Bill I do have CDI on the 72. This is ok with Waconia rules. So I guess stock is not stock just legal. I do believe the 73 cylinders will put out more power but the 72 has better exhaust and is a lighter sled. my 72 has NOS cylinders and the 73 had used cylinders so this also might be a factor also. Now I have to get Jake away from his Harley's so he can get the Nitro ready. Why anybody wants to ride a bike you have to wrench on before, during and after you ride is beyond me.
