Nobody ever answered my question! What is the weight of a stock 440 snow twister? What is its track width and length?

Sorry to get everyones undies in a bundle over my impression of the video. To me, I think the magnum rider rode out the weelie, yes it looks like he was closing in on the trail twister, but he was clearly behind throughout the video. I clutched dan's 72 nitro, it is built to the rule book, if it had the the stock drive clutch on it it would suck big time, I used my trail twister clutching knowledge to make it fly, We can all thank Mercury Marine. I have the utmost respect for guys like Dale who even with a F/a rupp have to screw around with the exhaust and carbs every time you want to make a simple clutching change. mercs are a dream compared to the hassles with a f/a. I will be at Eagle River this weekend with a trail twister and 250 s/t #513 on both sleds, dan will be there with hid 75 f/a rupp, our sleds have bone stock motors hex clutches and will compete with just about anything in outr classes. Come on out and see what stock kohler/hex combos can do.

Another thing some of you guys apparently dont know about Rick, is he actually DOES WANT TO SEE a stock "green dripper" run good at a major race. He would like nothing better then to eat his own words. He just likes to point out it just hasnt happened over 33 years,....and it probabley never will. Seems to really "get you guys worked up".[/quote] Dale your taking some of the fun out of this. Cory don't delete this. I had fun and it reminded me of the old days. Right Josh

The merc liquid has a 102' x 15" cleated track, dont quote me on the weight but I think it is close to 325 pounds.

Here's the best statistic that a liquid merc ever had.............. 653 wins in USSA sanctioned racing in 1976 the next closest mfg. had 127. rupp managed 13 wins that year. This my red friends is the definition of demoralizing the competition.

So the 76 Rupp 440 magnum is roughly 80 lbs heavier than the mercury. I just weighed mine with no fuel or water or chain case oil. It is simple physics. Horespower to weight ratio, with other considerations the same, will always determine the outcome of any event. This goes way back before sleds. Big engines in 32 fords street rods versus heavier full body cars with same engines and so on. Even in antique tractors you see it. In a certain weight class like 3500 lbs for example. You will have ten B allis chalmers all competeing and one of them is head and shoulders better than the rest. It can only be one of two things. He has a superior traction advantage or he isnt stock. Thats one of the reasons we had to start dynoing every tractor that pulled. One guys version of "tuned" is different than anothers. The very same thing applies with this discussion. A 76 Rupp 440 magnum stock will never have an advantage over a 76 mercury 440 snow twister because of the one simple physics lesson. Horsepower and traction being the same, weight will determine the outcome. Everytime. You can not cheat gravity!

I dont think anyone is asking the Magnum to run competively against the Twister or any other A or AA stocker. The Magnum is a B stock race sled.

Just for shits and giggles, maybe someone can start a new post that explains the differance between A and AA and B and C and so on. Maybe then we will all understand the relationship between the sleds and the classes better. I now it would help me and I am sure others too. Thanks.

You know what's funny about our local rules here? The '76 Super Brute is a "A" sled and the '76 Magnum is classed as a "B"...

I see some snow on the skis.... How does it run? Those pipes are simalar to 73 mag pipes....Hmm! Hi Greg it's not too bad for a 340, makes lots of noise anyways ;D Those are the mystery pipes I mentioned a while back, a guy that raced F/A's here run them on his F/A Nitro orig. I don't know what they orig. were, Kohler with some Rupp DNA in them ? lol

Alright, M'force. Spill the beans on the Cat. Is it yours? I had to take a double take to make sure it wasn't a 76 Sno Pro.
