not so sure here.... Looks like a pieced together mess that was done later on. Check out the polaris heat exchangers. I know he said it was converted to a liquid but.... Looks like the chain case and jack shaft was added... I don't know man, never seen anythin like it. Going for quite a bit of money. I guess I don't know much or someone is going for a ride. The front clip is what has me intrigued... other than that looks like a bunch of parts thrown together. In fact I think I have enough stuff to make one almost like it. Someone help

I was hoping someone would bring this up...Is this somebody's early rendition of a 3D clone? Anybody check out the engine up close...interesting head, don't see many like this. Anybody here the one that's got that 1725 high bid(with reserve not met)? Interesting auction

I'm on the same page as you Rog. If it goes for too much money I'm gonna build one exactly like it and put it up for auction.

It looks like the ser# starts with 2 but i can't say for sure. I also have enough parts to throw one together, if anything, whoever built that gave us a good idea. That motor is pretty cool . It also looks like a JD/Comet primary clutch, and a late 70's Polaris? chaincase

I agree with Roger and I am also leaning towards the "cobbled mess" theory.

Heres a breakdown as I see it.
73 Magnum bulkhead widened 76 Magnum track and pieces of 76 Magnum suspension 73 Magnum seat 75 F/A lowers 73 Magnum skis and gas tank 76 Nitro engine that looks to be one of Jerry Eves 75 F/A hood that has been glassed to look like a shark
All in all this is a very unique sled that someone put a lot of time into. If you add up the cost of the parts and add a little extra for engineering and labor, you are all spent at around $1500.00 in my opinion. I wish the seller all the best.

i have been talking to the guy who ownes this sled for about a month and a 1/2 now and we just couldnt come to terms on a price. super nice guy who ownes it. he got it from a rupp guy who has owned it form day one suposedly. said it was a protoype and was soposed to be crushed. you guys have seen the same things and said the same things i have told him. there is nothing protoype about it i feel. it is a pieced together sled out of 3 differnt models. look at the pipes, starts out 76 l/c pipes and then 73 mag pipes cut and welded to them. the steering bar hoop is a mid mount hoop bent to fit ware it can. look at the gas tank mounts. round tube just bent to fit the tank. if it was truly a protoype sled i think there would be alot more factory profesional work done here that i dont see. we could not come up with a deal so, well it is on ebay now. if alot of you havent seen the cooloing in the head done that way it was a trick that was done back in the day to help cool the exhaust side of the head and cylinders. i have several motors done this way. the trickest one i have is my 76 magnum sno-pro/factory mod sled with the aluminum bulk head. this has this done to it and alot more.the serial # does start with a 2 and runs in sequence for a 1973 mag tunnel. the jack shaft is a big ? mark. just alot of brackets and crap to hold thing in place. i am not trying to take anything away from the sled or it's credability but just look at it. we all know what is done here. i have gene blooms factory raced 1973 magnum and 2 ddi sleds that show way more craftsman ship and factory type work than this sled does. ?? b.s.

It just hurts to see the bidding activity on this parts bin special, over 8 days left and allready almost at 2 grand. I agree with ya Bill, no way it was built by Rupp or DDI, it wasn't their style.

I don't see whats so great about the head. Holes drilled in them with fittings. Looks alot like a chaparral head to me. I wonder if the whole motor is. Now if that head was 2 separate heads it would be special. Bankruppt what do you see that makes this head special ?

Well we know what it isn't and will have more fun with this, better remind him of e-bay's $20,000 fraud protection. I'm going to throw together a sled like that except I'll use a RUPP drive system and see what it brings on evilbay and i'll advertise mine as a parts machine, not a prototype, I'll ask why the orig foot holds holes are still in the tunnel, and why it has Polaris heat exchangers on it, can't wait for the answer on this. Some people can lie and still get a good nights sleep, I see it has been updated to a '76 now

I've only ever seen the mod a few times...just didn't know if anybody else had seen this done or had spotted it in the picture. I've seen individual heads as well. Really no advantage to it other than being able to turn your own domes in a lathe with a spark plug hole arbor. Looks like a chap head to me too.
