"we just took delivery of a true gtx 740 that a guy wants us to do a partial restoration on". Any progress or pictures? John, did they make about 10 GTX 740's? From what I understand, Rupp took delivery of 10 Sachs 740 fanners. (30 total were imported, skiroule received 10 and another manufacturer received the other 10) They were used in Germany as water pumps, however were not up to par for their intended use. I would say less than 10 sleds were completed.

My 740 fan motor came from a hovercraft builder in Ontario. They may have ordered it directly from Germany. They complained to Sachs that it was not powerful enough, so Sachs sent 2 of their tuned pipes and .080" pistons.

Seems like there isn't much going on the ole rupp message board so im assuming that everyone must be hard at it out in the shops. We are definately neck deep in projects that is for sure. Between me trying to help a buddy build a superstock oval 73 eltigre and trying to find time to finish building a new drag mod FA sled we just took delivery of a true gtx 740 that a guy wants us to do a partial restoration on. It showed up as a bare tunnel and 7 boxes of parts so again we have our work cut out for us. I tried to post pictures but it says the pictures are too large and our new site wont accept, but oh well. What you guys all up to? Hi I just found a 69 GTX behind a barn it is coming home soon but the head is missing more than a few fins and no seat but it is a great project !

Wesley - what model GTX is it? Seems the 295's are more common and may be easier to find parts for but they're around... As you can see, there are a lot of talented and knowledgeable guys around here! Keep us posted as well...

Wow that thing is impressive looking! Horribly over engineered, but impressive none the less. How does that upside down tilly work? I would assume not well. VERY COOL!

I'm not so familar with the operational tolerances of a tilliotson carburetor, its cool to know they will work upside down. Is that top tilly an HR and the bottom a HD?

Yes. It is actually a really neat setup. The HR carb is the only one functioning up to 1/2 throttle. After that the HD starts opening. At full throttle both carbs are open.

That is pretty cool, that thing must guzzle gas if it needs two full sized carbs to regulate the flow at different RPM. Man would I like to own something really rare and neat like that.

Could you post a video of it running?? Those engines have a unique sound. There was a GTX740[Jerry Eve's old sled]at Princeton 2 years ago. I knew exactly what it was, when it started up.It really drew the people in.A very RARE piece of history.
