I'll be working on this sled, when I get the steel roof put on my storage shed. This is the one I got from upmagnum & krazy, last fall.Just took it out of cold storage. The picture below,is a picture I got off line,it's not my engine!!! The Sachs 440 I have,is missing the "Y" pipe & exhaust header. I'll be needing what is pictured.Anyone? I have seacoastrupp looking for the pieces I need.Measurements on the Y pipe are as follows: Exhaust ports are 5" on center. The stub pipes, when screwed into engine, are 6 1/4" outside to outside of pipe by the jugs. Now on the ends of pipes,a piece has been added to increase size of pipe. They measure 6 3/8" outside to outside,on the pipe ends. The diameter of the pipe is as follows:at the end=1.63" or 41.06mm.Pipe up by jugs,1.48" or 37.69mm. Also need the header pipe, both pieces would help speed this build up.I have the muffler. Putting it back together, this is as far as I have gotten.I will be using parts I have in inventory, some might not be the same as when sled came from Rupp.I pulled the original green Sachs seals.Timing/points will be checked & reset,if needed.Wow,a whopping 35hp.

The tear-down has begun,TODAY!! I'm not working very hard at it. The drivers & idlers look ok.Just kidding. I'll sort through the parts & pick new stuff out for this sled, depending on the parts.NOS track, new rear idlers, repopped drivers.......

Heres the tunnel stripped down & cleaned.Put a few parts back on,but I need a spot welded on the rear of the tunnel. The center drive track that came out of this sled, was a Rupp#14300. It was quite THICK & it was HEAVY!!! It had a few broken track/drive bars.BUT I've got the track covered, nice to have EXTRA tracks when they are needed. The track, also had some bolts in it,that wore into the strength bars,on inside,TOP of tunnel.Must not have had much traction,so put some bolts for gripping!!

Here's some of the suspension/drivers that are ready. Still have a few more to do.I used "Dan's" new idler wheels on here.Have been using this design for over 2 years, with no problems.Red & black wheels are NO longer available,so yellow will be used.Color means nothing,as LONG as they WORK!!! Yes,this is the "correct" 70 Magnum tunnel with the factory gussets, and factory, crummy welding!! I will use the steel engine plate,I will sacrifice the aluminum parts for steel parts[engine plate & bumper]. Am I missing other hard to find aluminum parts strictly for the 70 Magnum

Dan, the motor plate would be steel, just the bumpers you are not using, often times the steel is powder coated and resembles the factory aluminum bumper. I don't think you missing any other aluminum parts but I never had a complete untouched 70 magnum.

Ed, check out the second picture down in this thread that is the original engine mount. It is an aluminum plate with the aluminum cross pieces.

What about the aluminum fuel tank brackets that go under fuel tank? Those have to be rare, as I have not seen many of those on 70 Magnums>

Yes I have seen them, I have a pair on my 70 Magnum! They look the same as the steel ones you have, just made out of aluminum.

Tomorrow should be the end of the cooler days. Will start stove & run it out of fuel. Will put more of the suspension in.You are probably getting sick of black on my sleds,BUT I like it!! Red,black & aluminum,ok by me.

Dan, on those '70's sleds you need to put the belly pan on before the ski spindles.

I have the belly pan,but it needs some work. I put the spindles/skis on[to hold it to the cross],so I can get the track put in. When the track is in,I'll fit the belly pan,it will be one of the last things to go on.Yup,the 70 had to be different.

Track is in & adjusted. Will need further adjustment at a later date==WINTER!! When I ordered flange bolts,I never thought the heads would be this big/thick! The 9/16" wrench, will NEVER round this head off.

I'm still rounding up parts.Found a pr of skis, that came in on a 71 440WT,they have no HOLES for ski shocks!! Would that be the correct ski for Magnum? Also have 2 springs per ski, with square, small bent up ends. They have surface rust, which should clean up[might leave some small pits, but anything is better than the brown, rusty look]. Before. After I'll put a coat of wax/polish over them.Plenty good for a rider.
