There wasn't enough light to shoot these, but I think you will see what I've done to them. It's hard to get good pictures of chrome & black paint.I painted the bottoms of skis, but it won't last long;BUT it LOOKS good, for now. These skis, had NO dimples for the mounting of the shock mounts, all my skis from 71 & up had the dimples or the holes.

The skis look great, Dan! That pipe looks like brown Swiss cheese, though!

Dan, anything is possible. Make one, fix it or maybe just maybe someone has one kickin around. An aluminum one would be bad a$$.

Dan, you could find a liquid nitro pipe and start fitting it in!

magnumed,is this the pipe you are talking about?

Yes, looks like your pipe has a sharper degree of bend. I would say it could be done with some time and thought. Your going to have an extra weld for sure. Or make one up by hydro forming your own.

I want to thank Joe Francis, for the exhaust parts for this sled, nice header pipe & muffler,& a box of bogie wheels[future builds].Joe delivered them to St.Germain on Memorial Day 2016,& lynxer from MN,brought them to me,at the DL swap on June 18th.Thanks to all involved. Also picked up a Y pipe to fit the Sach, not correct, but I will get it to work.Sled work is at a stand still, but have been out searching for parts for my other builds. Will go pick up a free Sprint 44 tomorrow,the25th,pretty rough, but parts,is parts.

From the last post in June, till now,the sled has sat in garage. It has been too hot & humid, most of the summer to do any work on it.I worked on it,3 days last week, because the weather was COOL.Today it's hot/humid again,NO work. This sled will have some of the right stuff to make it a Magnum, but will be missing some correct items.I am making it into a "rider",not a correct Rupp Magnum!!

This is the engine mount I came up with,NOT correct,I know. But it's the best I have. The engine sits the same height,as with ALL the aluminum mount pieces!!After bolting engine in place,I shot some pre-mix into the intake,it fired right off. This engine had been in storage in SD,for a "few" years.I cleaned it up, and put new crank seals in it.Timing seems good. Brace made from a narrow mount piece,to fit WT. Rather than cut up a plastic guard,I modified a 73 steel guard, made it wider.I added about 4" to it. Works quite well, thank you! This "Y" pipe, came off a Skiroule.I made some changes to it,to make it work.Am in the process of working on getting muffler mounted, then will work on header pipe.Time consuming.I think it bolts to engine. I have cut the angle pipe off bottom, will weld on a straight pipe,to meet up with the header pipe. This will be the start of the muffler mount.I don't know what it should look like,so for now,I'll wing it.

Thanks drrupp for the pictures of the muffler mounting bracket & location. I had even GUESSED right where the flat plate was to be mounted to the engine.Work is slowly getting done. Most of my sleds, are taking much longer to get done, over a year now!! Old age is starting to suck, with time slowly running down.

Hi dan This project is looking good. I do have a question, why did you not just bolt the motor to the metal motor mount. Was there a clearance issue with the clutch? I am building a similar sled with the same motor and metal mount. Keep up the good work Chris

nice work bro. I think I might start a build thread on my American just for a hobby. I love that snowflap

chrisb,I was told by another Rupp member,to raise engine up,as there were some clearance problems.I believe one was the belt hitting engine mount bolt/nut,the other was the fan housing hitting the tunnel,& the primary clutch was running very close to the tunnel, hard to get belt off/on.Had to raise engine up.I raised it up,the thickness of the aluminum flat bar mount. indy650,I put the sno-flap on another sled I'm building,a 71 Sprint 44,narrow track. It fits the narrow tunnels better.

Looks good Dan, the mount you mentioned is it under the secondary clutch?
|
|
|
Post by ruppluver on Sept 22, 2016 20:04:19 GMT -6
Yes,the belt clearance is very minimal on the engine mount under secondary clutch,EVEN with the correct mount/engine!! On some of the sleds I parted out, there were washers on top of tunnel mount, then the engine mounting plate was on top of them, that seemed to raise the primary clutch/drive belt up a tad.

I noticed the drive belt was running a tad loose,so I slotted the holes in the aluminum plate, now I can tighten the belt more,if needed!! Also welded up the cuts in the header pipe, also cut the small end off & angle ground it to get a straight line for pipe coming off Y pipe. Will pick up some bigger pipe at the muffler shop in town.Hoping to get the exhaust done, cleaned & painted this week, thats my ONLY goal. This is new tail light mount, nope, its not mounted to the seat! Tried the hood, fits ok,not much adjustment,if any at all. Put seat on for fit, looks like tool box fits ok.
