i am a little slow at this stuff , just fussy here some pics of my re builds on lc decking top half of cases, will post more as i go, next step true clyinders top and bottom

heres the 340 and 440 cases cleaned up and trued only took .002 off 340. the 440 needed .005 last guy was real ruff with gasket buffer thoes little scotch brite pads make quik work of gaskets and surface as well

found a interesting idea today this is a 440 xenoah crank out of a chaparral it weighs 5.8 lbs less than a 77 nitro crank, it has five main bearings same stroke same top rod width as 76 going to half to put it together with 76 jugs and head to see what it feels like and the crank uses std of ther self bearings

heres the cases put together new seal s and outside bearings crank trued to .001, top of case trued it has dual impluses fittings too. same bolt pattern , stator lines up flwheel housings and watepump bracket from 340 all line up flywheel has same taper so i can use rupp ignition system, and recoil

heres a 77 nitro crank apart those center bearings are 68mm o.d .x30mm i.d. x 15.9 mm wide both rod are burnt in this donor crank if any body has any of these center bearings part no 26118 rupp i need seven of them two for 440 5 for 340

heres the 76 clyinders cleaned ,welded where the last guy used screwdriver for wedges to get the head off ruined head gasket surface head was crouded on the studs the bottom gasket surface hase been trued up, helicoiled all head studs , the head gasket surfaces have been milled after they have be troque to a trued and squared top crankcase half , and have been numbered to go together to get a good head seal, they still have to be bored more to come later

heres a 77 440 crank on truing stand you put it on centers or on knife edge bearings if the centers are nicked up, found two center bearings today they are made by skf just ordered them today if they work out ill share the part no and source of supply with every body , found a source for wrist pin bearings for both 76 and 77 440s pricing shoud be about normal ill share that it it pans out they took the order but havent gotton any yet, i am going to find some replacements for some of these tough items to get and share it with the rest of you

heres a 77 440 bottom end back together crank trued and new outside bearings and seals reshimed end play and decked top case, i know the pistons are problem to get , i am working on getting some availabilty with up to + .080 for both 77 and 76 440s with thrust washers set up to use either 77 or 76 jugs on either 77 or 76 cranks i think this will help out a lot of guys,

Wow, it's not often you see someone take the extra effort to do it right. I hope you can come up with some part resources because I swore off ever doing another Rupp because of the issues with finding parts. I enjoy building old sleds but I don't enjoy trying to find parts and paying the premiums that typically go with them. I might have one more left in me after all lol.

here my crank splitter in the my 20 ton press , i built the splitter out of angle iron and flat stock nothing special, you block up one side of the crank in the press and the spliitter presses it apart

this is a bolger crank splitting tool for one lunger motorcylces i had this tool since the early 70 s I have made lot money with it and it works just fine on the xenoahs always measure the width of the crank webs and scribe the webs with a precision square be for you get this far it save you a lot time later

this is the whole mess apart, I will be using two cranks to get enough parts for one good one, my center bearings are in need to pick them up monday . are the webs and parts will be bead blasted and cleaned, the shafts will be polished up , rods with be ligtly honed and checked for bends or twist then i will select the best bearing pins and rods to assy, i am going to stuff the crank webs and crank pins

i just finshed boiling out these flat slide 38 mm mikuni,s, had to make brackets and throttle cross shafts to xenoah port centers, i belive they came off a yamaha, that cross shaft is metric and cross drilled and pinned for they slide linkage its a nice set up you only need one cable for both carbs and they are easy to snyc, i dont now were the jetting will work , ill try it

heres the nsk bearings for the center mains nsk part no b30-141c4**ur, they were expensive about 95.00 each will explore for lower cost bearing replacement after first of year, i have on the way rubber coated seal s for the mag side of the 340 and 250 shoul be about ten dollers each if youi need one pm me and i can send you some plus shipping thanks kevin

Nice looking work!!!!! Curious to know how the Chappy crank works being much lighter. I have a 76 Mag 440 to build up soon so I may be in cotact with you if I need to locate some parts. Thanks for sharing all the pics and info.
