I have a 71 magnum also incorrect motor 2 hoods 400 and 440. also from new York . Why cant I leave it to my son when I die ? I told him when I go to get that sled and the F/A stuff before anything. If I could get $4000 for the magnum with the wrong motor I would think hard about it.

When he said he got "his" price, that could mean anything!! He wanted $6500,then lowered it to $3500.Said he had all kinds of "low ball offers" at $3500. Whatever he got,I'm happy for him! I guess we will never know, which is ok.

I was turned off 1st time I saw it on vintagesleds.com for $6500. What does that say? Looking for a sucker. Too many original Magnum parts missing for me. I didn't want to drive all the way to Peru to find out it was a Rover in progress.

If Magnesium bought two sleds on E-bay, then he only paid $500 for the Magnum?. Because you have the wrong motor,(I've got the correct Magnum motor for mine) and it must be junk or you would post a pic of your great sled! No wonder the seller was happy to see it go, laughing all the way to the bank! All you got was a parts sled. I could have used the parts for what I'm missing,(but I just bought them now) in your own words that would be a fair deal"(for me)" not so much for you! You chewed on my sled and yours isn't any better. And Magnumal, you want to call me a jerk for selling a sled? Why don't you crawl back into that beer can and give us another great Rustolium paint job! That's the worst paint I've ever seen, and you post it? By the way, without the correct motor on your Magnum, you too have nothing but a parts sled. I figured if I stopped posting everybody on the board would get a break and it would drop, but this must have really bothered you two. You guys are easy!!! Lets see the mentality if you post, I really don't care what you think, why would I?

I have all the parts I need to build a 71 440SR methanol burner, so I didn't pay much attention to the motor. Correct WT suspension was most important. If your sled is an original, where did all the original parts go? When you put your sled on here for sale you failed to mention what was missing. Buyer beware, I guess.

Never said my sled was original, I said Magnum by serial number don't know where you got that. After seeing it 42 years ago on the show room floor, it has changed hands and been a race sled most of its life. I said many new unused parts mostly bought off Rick (nitro76). As far as the 71 Magnum slider, most of these were pulled and upgraded to the 72, I'll bet Rupp had a TSB back in the day on this upgrade. As far as I can see, the 71's swing arms would bend and cause it to off track. Can't win races or ride far with bent parts and possibly tearing the track off. I won't call the 71 slider junk because its a Rupp, just a learning process as in any factory build. If I wanted to let it sit in the barn a 71 slider would be fine, but I ride mine like they were meant to be. Sooner or later a 71 slider will come up for sale and I'll just buy it to have, I have the money and if I want it I just go get it!

You're right that some may have upgraded to a 72 suspension. MagnumEd has seen more 71's than most of us, he'd know. I'd bet that Bloom and Binkley ran 72 suspensions as soon as they were available. But a 71 WT Magnum was sold with a 71 suspension, and they're rare. A 72 WT slider was available on Americans. Rovers, too. BTW, I don't think the serial number will prove a Tunnel to be a Magnum. A 71 Wide Track tunnel can be modified into a Magnum, serial number would be in the right place too. If I'm wrong I'll be corrected shortly.
