I know which one wouldn't win.74nitro2's rouge with the rebuilt engine and replaced panels. That sled is no longer original. I would suspect this is why attendance at shows have been down people are tired of the focus being more on trophy's and what class they put their sled in than the sled itself. Now everyone will pipe up and say I don't care about trophy's but how many shows have you gone to that don't offer trophy's? Me I plop it down pay the fee tell them its show only and go bull crap and look for parts. I'm not saying trophy's are bad if the show is done right and you get one its a great accomplishment I'm saying some people take it to seriously.

This discussion is fine, but doesn't pertain to this class or any of the sleds being built for it. Just so we're all clear.

I think all true original rupps are still in the junk yards , I would say if there is 100 that would be a lot , just think if someone finds a vintage rupp sled the first thing they are going to do is fix it up .

According to Wikipedia, the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders", changed the terminology in 1994 from ADD to ADHD-PI.(attention deficit hyperactivity disorder predominantly inattentive) You're welcome.

Like the man said,, if the show guidelines allows for that then that's the way it is, not much you can do, and it stops the arguing.

I do know that, but you can have AAD with out being hyperactive. This is another case of Idiots trying to make there job look worth while. I swear everything is run by Collage graduates the had a C average and cheated to get that.

It's up to the people who write the rules. If they want a hundred sleds in the unrestored class, they broaden the rules. Now, imagine if they're strict on original parts and they require that the sled starts and all parts function. That eliminates the old electric start sleds.( battery?) The 76 crate Nitro? Only if the owner is willing to put gas in it, run it and give up its special status. How about one-owner? This unrestored idea is the opposite of a build-off. Lucky find and least amount of work versus most amount of work and skill.

I agree with most of you too. Leave the small dings and scrapes. All that adds to the character of the sled. Besides if you get it all polished up then you won't ride it like it should be ridden, hard.
On the car comparison, I have a couple 80's turbo rockets that are built up to go like snot and handle the same. But the original paint has seen better days and I'm ok with that. Racecars don't win shows and showcars don't win races. That's my take

Just picked up a suspension part from The welding shop. The guy must not own a strait edge, I had to put the part into a press to straiten it out to use it? Not sending out any other parts for repair doing it myself. Cant find good help these days. On a good note the powder coating turned out beautiful.

A friend owned a 71 440SR back in 72. Rupp issued an update that said "weld the crank pins".He was a welder so he did it himself. It ran for about 30 seconds. I got what was left of the motor.

I don't understand how businesses can run like that. Its amazing.

I'm buying a tig welder and Ed is going to teach the old man how to weld aluminum..... Funny story.....Local guy was a welder, his son wanted to follow in Dad's footsteps. The old man didn't want his son to be a welder. So he told him that when he could weld two razor blades together he'd be good enough to join the business. Kid tried and tried for weeks, asking people for their old razors. One day, the son plunked down 2 razors welded together, perfectly smooth bead. Dad picks it up, inspects it, then says "Nice, never seen it done before" Don't stop at aluminum Ed. Let us know when you can weld magnesium.

Welding mag is a lot like welding alum, uses a flux in addition to the rod. It behaves basically the same however your heat control is a little more critical. It will fall out the bottom with virtually no warning and while your welding on it the surface appears like a marshmallow in a microwave.
