Thanks, mrmotors. Lot of people are afraid of magnesium. Is it the reputation? I'm not afraid! I didn't think that post would get a free pass. I asked someone about casting magnesium. Needs to be done in a "box",inert gas,etc.. Magnesium wheels on race cars would burn up if the fire got hot enough, hard to extinguish.

the Husqvarna chainsaws we sell have magnesium cases on them had one local welder that could do it well by tig welding he was a old navy welder he would preheat the case then tig it he used a special filer rod I should have paid more attention to bad he passed away a few years ago he saved a lot stuff for us I am sure he would have taught me, he offered to, had no interest then

Magnesium creates its own oxygen when it burns which is why it will burn under water. The only way to put it out is to cool it off. If you can weld aluminum, you can weld magnesium. I use Rockmount rod and the flux that go's with it. Welding it will consume a fair amount of rod, just have to practice with it a bit as it does behave somewhat different that aluminum. If your not sure of what the material is, take your pocket knife and peel a piece off it and put a lighter to it. If it's mag it will torch off, if it's aluminum it won't.

MagnumEd has more Magnums than anyone I know, but he's entered a Nitro. I'd be surprised if it had a fan and a muffler.

Your right no fan I hate fan belts and single carbs. Its mandatory to have a carb for each cylinder or it gets put outside or sold. Maybe we should have some small hints like you did. Well its a big hint for a lot of us.............

I'm still looking for a 72' magnum... I was sure MagnumEd was gonna build a baby brother for the '72 650. I might still be right. I might have to eat my words about bringing a Nitro to a Magnum pageant.

I look forward to seeing pictures of the results of this build off. I will have to compete from my shop.. Besides... I don't have a Magnum..

72 Free Air Nitro's are sometimes called Magnums, just to separate them from the fanners. Very rare from day one.How many,Ed? They were available only to a chosen few.
