Looking good. If your going to run an air box you might want to unbolt that radiator amd put it in before you go any further. It won't fit if you try to do it later. Don't ask me how I know! Joe
After looking at the pics again I see the left side air deflector is off, you may be able to fit it in through there with the clutch off.

Thanks guys.
The engine on this one was partially taken apart when we got it. I cleaned everything & put it back together mostly just to make sure I had everything & to get the proper pieces parts in the proper places. There are no inerts in it now. Rebuilt crank should be ready on Wednesday. It will be completely taken apart cleaned again & then officially put together at that time.
Was planning on putting air box back then but can take radiator out easily too. Thanks for the heads up.
Two of these sleds have plastic overflow bottles (if thats what they are called) for the cooling system & two have metal ones. Did they change that part way thru the 1976 production year?

Air box is installed. Thanks for the tip krazy -I understand what you were talking about now. The crank is in & bottom end of the engine is put back together. We found that we have one piston from a '77 Nitro that will not work in this engine. Correct piston should be here next week. Hood & pan parts are supposed to be done on Sunday & decals will be here middle of the week. Couple pictures...

I found that two of these sleds have these blocks under the motor plate & two don't? Can anyone tell me if they are supposed to be there? Motor seems to sit in its spot better without them? Also, here is a picture of the coolant reservoir that I was inquiring about earlier. Two of the other sleds have plastic ones & one has a different style metal one? Just a change during the production year?

My 76's do not have those spacers at the motor mounts, I think the plastic bottles failed and new metal ones were fabricated by owners

Thanks Johnny. I think I am going to leave them out as well. Upon further inspection, it was quite obvious that our coolant reservoir was home made too. We do have a good plastic one from one of the other sleds but will use the home made one because of the story it tells about the sled. We also left the bracing that was done to the bulkhead. Very crude with really ugly welds. Couple more pictures. Original seat from one of the other sleds. Very nice shape. Red......!!!! You can see the bulkhead bracing in this picture although you cant see how really ugly it is.

Had to set one of the pan pieces in place. I like it.

My guess on those extra spacers was to change the angle of the motor so the pipes would clear the front lower panel better. A lot of the time when you see these the pipes have burned/worn through the lower center panel. Keep up the good work, your gonna like this when it's done. Joe

Or maybe to run a shorter belt, maybe the same as another sled they had at the time?

Think you have solved the mystery. Attached picture shows the evidence.
